I fell in love with flowers when I was 16 and, honestly, I never really looked back.
What started as a teenage love affair with flowers eventually became Wheelhouse — and over the years has grown into so much more than flowers. Weddings, events, styling, rentals, installations + a whole lot of beautiful things collected along the way.
I grew up in a wildly creative home and have spent most of my life surrounded by artists, makers + people who see things a little differently. I think that’s probably why I’ve never been very interested in things that are too perfect or too expected.
For the last decade, I was lucky enough to call the Joshua Tree desert home — creating and working throughout the high desert and letting a little of its magic, wildness + unusual beauty find its way into my work.
Now I find myself back on the coast and closer to my roots, calling Laguna Beach home and surrounded once again by family, friends + a creative community I love. It feels a little like coming full circle — just with ten years of desert dust coming along for the ride.
The coast feels familiar. The desert changed me. Wheelhouse lives somewhere between the two.
I’ve always been drawn to the unusual — the juxtaposition of things that aren’t necessarily supposed to go together, but somehow do. Old + new. Rough + refined. Wild flowers with beautiful objects. Color, texture + all the strange little details Mother Nature already figured out for us.
The goal isn’t to make everything match. It’s to make it feel like it belongs together.
I’m a nature lover and a big fan of Mother Earth, so I try to tread lightly where I can. Whenever possible, we work with seasonal, locally grown flowers purchased directly from growers and let what’s naturally looking good lead the way.
Less forcing. Less fussing. More letting beautiful things be beautiful.
Established in 2012, Wheelhouse has had the honor of creating one of 100 Layer Cake’s favorite wedding bouquets of 2013, being named one of BRIDES’ Best Floral Wedding Vendors of 2015 + being featured in a pretty great collection of places along the way.
